Beethoven: Symphony No. 7, op. 92, A major

Violin superstar Midori returns with Michael Stern to kick off Iris' 2023-24 season, titled Perspectives. The concert opens with Carlos Simon's perspective on Beethoven's masterful 7th symphony. Fate Now Conquers is inspired by the symphony's flowing and mournful 2nd movement and suggests that Beethoven's struggle to overcome personal obstacles drives our imaginations to this day. The Iris Collective welcomes Midori back with Dvorak's Violin Concerto, a piece she recorded with Zubin Mehta in 1989. Her perspective on this work today has only deepened in her 30 years as an artist, activist and educator.
