South Africa’s Choir. Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. The 43-strong choir, under the direction of Beverly Bryer, draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto. The choir is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world.
The choir’s performance is a musical celebration of the centenary of the birth of the father of their “rainbow nation,” Nelson Mandela, with the program “Songs of the Free.” The evening will include South African classics as well as freedom songs and gospel music much-loved by Mandela for whom the Soweto Gospel Choir had the privilege of performing in front of on multiple times during his life.
