Join us in the Patrick Lawton Lobby for an Artist’s Reception
Erica McCarrens
The Otherworlds: Ethereal Paintings
The reception is free to attend and open to all.
Erica McCarrens was born in 1982 in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. In her senior year of high school she received a substantial scholarship to attend the Memphis College of Art, where she majored in drawing with an emphasis in art history. She graduated MCA as Valedictorian in 2006, then began her art career as program coordinator at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens. There, she drew inspiration from the beautiful gardens and arboretum, and gained an intimate knowledge of the art world. In 2017, she left the Dixon to stay home with her small children, pursue her fine arts career and spend more time volunteering in schools and around the city. Erica’s art is influenced by the beautiful chaos of nature, children’s literature and fairy tales, the Golden Age of Illustration, Gustav Klimt, religious idols, as well as abstractions like playful light and shadows. The compositions are meant to invoke feelings of wonder and spirituality. Erica currently lives and works in Germantown, TN with her husband, two children, two dogs, two guinea pigs and father-in-law.
